Derbyshire Xcountry Trials – Tuesday 25/2/14

Not content with winning her age category in the Derby Runner XC league before the last race on Sunday. Feedback from her dad suggests that she is a very talented runner.

Clodagh ran in the Derbyshire Xcountry trials on Tuesday 25th Feb and qualified (top 8 finish) for the county girls junior team to run in the National Schools Race on 15th March at Donington Park. An excellent result. Thanks for all your support getting her this far. I know she’ll be proud to wear that county shirt .

Belvoir Challenge March 1st 2014

It turned out to be a wonderful spring day for the Belvoir 16 & 27 mile Challenge. 12 striders took part in the 16 miler and 2 brave runners took part in the 27! It was extremely muddy, wet and slippy under foot making this race extremely tough and hard work. In order of finishers first in for Shelton was:-

In the 27 mile race Andy Bradley finished in 74th in a time of 4.37.40 and Rachel Farrow came 11th overall in the female catergory in a time of 4.37.33. Fantastic effort by all the striders today. Well done!

National XC Championships 22nd February 2014

Eleven Striders made the short trip to Wollaton Park to take part in the National Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

In the U15 girls there was an excellent result for Clodagh Holmes who finished 188th in 18:34

In the U15 boys still recovering from a foot injury Edward Baxter also had a good run to finish in 302nd place in 18:16

The other 9 runners all ran in the senior men’s race and they came 47th out of 127 in the Senior Men’s 6 to count, 35th out of 56 in the Senior Men’s 9 to count and individually…

Headbanger Race Results 2014

Charnwood Hills – Sunday 2 February

There were 382 finishers in this classic hill race also known as “The Bowline” which was won by Tim Hartley.

First in for the club in 24th place was James Walker followed closely by Rob Donald in 27th with Gayle Gamble the first lady Strider in 209th position (24th lady).

Watford Half Marathon

One of our newer members, Dan Siddons is making himself known by competing in the Watford Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd February. He certainly nailed it by finishing in an absolutely fantastic time and a PB of 1hr16min. Well done Dan….amazing effort!

Winster Stumble – Sat 25 Jan

There were four runners taking part in Dave Gristocks latest stumble. Dave Gristock, Dave Keegan, Jez and Rachel Smith completed the 9 mile route but not quite quickly enough. On the last mile the heavens opened and they were caught in a massive storm with nowhere to hide and they were absolutely soaked.

Wilmot Wander

Eight  Shelton Striders braved the wind, rain and mud to compete in a 32 mile ultra on Sunday 26th January. There were two teams of three….Sam Pearch, Kenny Malton & Shaun Cooper in one team and Wayne Stevenson, Luke Stevenson & Sam Amps in the other. The two solo striders were Julie Stevenson & Tim Primmer. It started and finished at Chaddesden 27th Scout Headquarters. It was extremely wet from the start and they had to endure extreme conditions under foot. However, this didnt stop Shelton Striders first team Sam, Kenny & Shaun finishing in a fantastic time of 5hrs 23mins and winning the team event overall. Next strider in was young Luke Stevenson (with a solo PB and his 3rd Wilmot Wander under his belt) of 5hrs 49mins but finishing as a team with dad Wayne & Sam Amps in 6hrs 00mins. Well done! Solo woman strider Julie also completed the race in a PB of 7hrs 32mins. Unfortunately, Tim did complete 20 miles of the course but had to drop out, but a brave effort for his first attempt.  Well done everyone. It was tough but great results all round!!
