Wednesday Night Training

Wednesday Training takes place from 6pm – 7pm, for both Darley Park in the Summer and Moorways Track in the Winter. Our Wednesday sessions are ‘Interval Training’ which vary each week, so you get the most out of your training. (e.g. on the track you may do 10 x 2 minutes effort, with recovery in between, the next week could be 5 x 5 minutes effort etc). See below for more details!

You’ll find qualified coaches and run leaders there, as well as lots of friendly, dedicated Striders there every week, on hand to give help and advice to improve your running – so why not give it a try?

All members are welcome to join the sessions, as are non-members/guests who would like to give them a go (non-members/guests can attend for up to 3 sessions before making a decision on membership, Social Level as a minimum). Membership can easily be done using our online form, see the ‘About Us->Membership Details’ section.

However, there are a few things to note.
* If you have not been to Wednesday night training before (including members) you will need to arrange to have an induction with one of the coaching team prior to commencing the session on the night (this usually involves getting to the session at 5:45pm). Please email the coaching team to arrange this (See contact list). More session info can be found in the Summer/Winter Training sections below.
* Non-members/guests must sign-in with the coaching team and provide emergency contact info.

Please try and arrive punctually and be ready to run by 6pm. Latecomers must seek permission of the relevant coach before joining a session.

Training

Whether you’re a casual runner or beginner, an experienced runner, or somewhere in between, the training is suitable for everyone! Here’s how we normally set up the sessions:

The training consists of a coached session for runners who would like help with their training, tips on strength & conditioning and warm-ups/cool downs.
One of our coaches provides details of the session, normally 1 to 2 days before, via our Club Facebook Group (Members only).
Usually the sessions, on both track and at Darley are done “to a whistle” (indicating the switch from ‘effort’ to ‘recovery’). So it doesn’t matter what speed you run at, it is your session – if you want to go fast or if you want to ease off, it doesn’t matter – the choice is yours!

This session also includes a structured warm up & cool down, so please allow time for these – most members try to get there between 15-30 mins before the session starts. It is also a good time for questions etc.

Summer Training (Darley Park)

* The cost of the sessions is free for members and non-members (who can attend for up to 3 sessions before making a decision on membership).

From April to the end of September (until it gets too dark!) the Wednesday training takes place at Darley Park and more often than not includes hill work. There is car parking available opposite the Papermill (and Abbey) pubs and we meet at a large tree about 100 metres into the park.

After training we migrate to the Papermill pub for some well earned refreshment.

Note: Guest’s can have 3 weeks free, subsequent training requires membership at minimum Social Level.
