Mackworth Challenge Marathon (and Cake) – 9th September 2017

You may remember in February this year, one of our runners Andy Brooks took part in a race called The Last One Standing – runners will have 1 hour to complete the first 4.2 mile loop and be at the start line ready to go again at 1pm, then again at 2pm and so on. Any runner not finished inside the time limit and at the start ready to start again will be disqualified.

The Mackworth Challenge Marathon will use some of the same principles as The Last One Standing and also some things I saw on my 10 in 10 last year.

Location/ Course:- we will be using the grounds behind where Mackworth College used to be and a nearby network of paths.

Course:- is traffic free but will share the paths with dog walkers, cyclists and maybe other runners. I run these paths a lot and are generally quiet. It will be marked and shouldn’t need marshals, so hopefully as many as possible can take part.

Distance:- 2.6 miles/ 10 laps – open for solos or if the 26 miles is a bit too far, why not pair up with somebody and run alternate laps.

Event start time/Cut-off:- starts at 9am, runners will have 30 minutes to complete the first 2.6 mile loop and be at the start line ready to go again at 9:30am then again at 10am and so on. Any runner not finished inside the time limit must drop out, but also free to stop when you like.

Refreshments:- food and drink will be provided, hopefully some of you will bake some goodies. Please use what’s provided to replenish your energy, fluids, etc.

This is non-competitive and a social event within the club, a fundraiser for the club charity and also a test event with the possibility to be opened up to others, open to all abilities and ages. So feedback will be gratefully received.

Cost:- With it being for charity, entry fee will be £3 like at our other social events.

Volunteers:- some will be needed to help with timekeeping, refreshments, etc

It’s a social event so have some banter, camaraderie, encourage, support others and enjoy being out running.

Hope to see you there.
Thanks
Sam
