Well done to Tim Bentley for going it alone and being the only Strider to go to the once-yearly National Cross Country event up in Bolesworth Castle, Chester. I’ve done these events with Tim before and I know how much he loves them! (they are absolutely brilliant by the way, a must-try for any club runner!). Tim was slightly disappointed that non of the ‘big names’ showed (looking at you Brownlees!), and he was surprised at how flat it was for a National XC, but I’m sure it was still as tough as ever!! He thoroughly enjoyed his day and came in position 1466 in a time of 1:16:25 – well done Tim!!
In Leicestershire, the Striders Road Championship season kicked off with a Half Marathon and 4 Striders lining up behind Derby’s very own Team GB Olympian Ben Conner (who went on to cruise in at 1:04:57!)
Great performances by Striders with our own ‘Seb Coe’ Andy Miller coming in 9th in his Age Cat and Liz Phillips putting in a tremendous effort despite her badly bruised toe! It was a first Half Marathon in Rachel Youngs preparation for her London Marathon and Matt Henning just sneaked in under the 2 hour mark – well done all of you – a great start to the Championship season!
Elsewhere and rather more exotically than Leicestershire, we had Lyndsay Wiles and her friend Sarah, taking on the Malta Half Marathon! They looked like they had a great mini-break with Lyndsay very happy at the finish after a recent injury (and with a couple of refreshment drinks!). Well done ladies!
We also had a brilliant run from Chris Halliday, the day after he got his Parkrun PB he went and got 6th place at the Carsington 10k, 2nd in his Cat! Fantastic running Chris, well done!
