With many events around the country understandably being cancelled, due to the very sad passing of our Queen Elizabeth II, parkrunners were grateful that they could come together as normal and respectfully remember her. The Royal family are great advocates for exercise, running & mental health so it was much appreciated by all.
This week we had 28 runners in total, with 25 of these at Alvaston for our Striders Parkrun Championship fixture. We also had lovely Striders out volunteering, which is much appreciated especially in what turned out to be a very wet morning – thank you Dave Keegan, Charli Land, Paul Phillips, Lyndsay Wiles & Ray Evans!
Great performances too in the rain, 4 Striders dug deep and managed PBs! Congratulations David Green, Samantha James, Steve Cartwright & Sally Cartwright, that’s brilliant folks!
We also had Paul Pearce in 2nd place and only 5 secs off his PB, Andrew Miller 12th place and only 4 seconds off his PB! The rain must’ve helped all the great performances!
Tourism wise, we had Paul Roome down for a first go at Leamington, Chris Halliday also getting a PB at Rushcliffe – well done Chris! Amanda Wilson notched up her 64th parkrun location with a trip way down on the South Coast at Durlston Country Park, near Swanage!
Great work all of you :) we have our next Striders Tourist trip on 25th September, so get yourselves prepped & ready, expecting great things from the very fast Long Eaton course, no pressure! :D
