This superbly organised event also known as the ‘Real Ale Relay’ is one of our highlights for the year – it brings not only all of our club members together to Darley Park, but loads of other clubs too for an evening of running fun, hills, fancy dress and a free drink! Luckily this year we had a lovely sunny evening too, which really makes the event special :)
We had our Striders President Graham Pickering doing his thing as MC – fantastic job as ever Graham!
We also had 2 Striders volunteering, Alex Hall – who was busy organising all of the volunteers, and Paul Phillips marshalling, as he unfortunately had to drop out due to injury, hope you’re back on it soon Paul! Thanks all of you!
Our 15 Striders teams, organised by our fantastic team-juggler Tim Spate (brilliant job Tim!), saw approximately 60 Striders running a leg each of this 4 x 2 mile relay race (I say approximate as some had to run 2 legs due to people unable to make it). Right up to the start Tim had to work his magic getting the teams sorted with last minute changes. It all came good and after a brilliant Striders Team photo, we were ready for the off!
Everyone ran really well and enjoyed themselves (well some may disagree on that, due to a couple of hills!). It was amazing to see our new members chatting away with their team-mates – welcome Anastasia Hagan & Jo Teft! Jo especially enjoyed being in her Team with Lyndsay Butcher and co, and it’s inspired her to get stuck into some more training, brilliant! (don’t let Matt do your training plan though, or you may regret it! :) )
Anyway, here’s the results! A fantastic 5th place from the aptly named ‘Lock Stock and Four Smoking Striders!’, plus some great category positions too! Well done everyone, look forward to doing it all again next year!
