Parkrun

Parkrun Results – 8th July 2023

It was a special weekend at Parkrun UK, marking the 75th birthday of the NHS, so everywhere you looked there were people supporting & wearing their NHS t-shirts and such, fantastic work by everyone & thank you to all our wonderful NHS workers :)

The weather kindly supported the occasion too, by being hot and humid! We had a massive 37 Striders this week at 6 events, with the vast majority at Alvaston and Shipley – (17 and 15 respectively). We also had Ray Evans doing his brilliant work supporting once again at Alvaston – thank you Ray!

Huge congratulations to Jamie Atkinson who added another achievement to his list – he broke the Shipley Parkrun Age Category record for MV55! I say broke, he absolutely smashed it, coming in at 18:54!! (The previous was mid 19s I think!). Anyone who has run Shipley will know how good a time that is for that course (or any course for that matter!), brilliant work – well done Jamie!

That wasn’t the end of it at Shipley, we also had brilliant PBs from Tim Stokes, Sally Cartwright, Lyndsay Wiles & Paul Phillips! With Luke Inglis, Steve Cartwright & Amanda Jackson having their first go at this challenging course! Great running all of you!

At Alvaston there were no PBs but sounds like you all had a lot of fun! Paul Pearce took a trip over to Long Eaton to continue his great form – he was very close to getting back to sub 18, by hitting it bang on the head and getting 4th place! – Fantastic running Paul, well deserved mate, soon be back at sub 18 again!

Elsewhere, tourist-wise Paul Roome is way up in the Scottish Highlands so did the Fort William parkrun while he’s there, Sharon & Dave Sullivan did Melton Mowbray and Time Spate was at the beautiful Wollaton Hall!

Well done all of you! Next weekend is going to be a good one – we have the Tara Kinder Memorial 10k on the Friday evening at Elvaston Castle (loads of Striders doing this and still time to enter I think!?) then a few hours later the Striders Parkrun Championship fixture at Alvaston! Have a good, steady week folks, to prepare for those two crackers!
