Parkrun Results – 2nd March 2024

This week we had 24 Striders running at 6 different events, and an impressive volunteer list – thanks very much to Dave Keegan, Andy Miller, Liz Phillips & Denise Robertson (& Ruby) all at Alvaston, then Sue Kinross at Markeaton, Eamonn Hughes at Long Eaton, and Richie Wheatcroft at Shipley, great support folks!!

No PBs to report this week, however there was a good Striders head to head at Alvaston, with Liam Regan & Paul Pearce a close 6th & 7th place, both sub 18 mins – well done chaps!

For tourism this week, Gloria Lagou & Chris Sharp notched up another new one, this time at Coventry! Then at the other end of the Parkrun alphabet, at Yarborough in Lincoln, we had Hannah Cartwright who’s still at Uni there, visited by Mum & Dad Sally & Steve, a new course for them both! Hope you all had a fun weekend :)

Then last but definitely not least, at the very end of the alphabet, we had the Zuiderpark gang :D
Striders wise it was Amanda Wilson, Leo Pickford, Tim Stokes, Lyndsay Wiles, Hazel Baxter, Sam Kitchen and me, with friends Scott & Tom also joining us :)
Zuiderpark (South Park apparently!) is in The Hague, Netherlands about a 50 minute train ride from Amsterdam. It is a lovely event in a sports park (between AV Sparta and Sportcampus), all on tarmac and a fast flat course! We were very lucky as the sun came out just as we got there and stayed out for the rest of the day!
The whole area is very well connected with the tram network, so getting there is a breeze (well if you have a Leo & Hazel with you!!). Approximately half of the 126 runners were British, they did two first timers briefs – one in Dutch and one in English, with the main brief in Dutch (I managed to pick out a warning to watch out for the goose!!)
Great running from all of the gang who I can report thoroughly enjoyed it! Especially well done to Tim who has had a recent injury lay off and came back firing on all cylinders, getting his best time for ages! We had an amazing weekend all round, lots of laughs with a trip into Amsterdam and a lovely canal cruise in the evening (very cultured eh?!), then before we flew back, even had a couple of hours at the beach in The Hague!!  Thank you gang :D 

Great running as ever Striders, remember it’s our Parkrun Championship fixture at Alvaston this coming Saturday (9th), so hopefully see lots of you there :)
