Tywyn Race the Train, Wales And The Belper Rover

Rachel Farrow and Denise Robertson took on The Belper Rover 30k. The organisers describe it as “The route incorporates ancient Roman roads once the haunt of highwaymen, farmland, ancient woodland and parts of the Midshires way.” I think that means it’s quite tough 😊.

Meanwhile Richard Tissington was racing the train in Tywyn, which sounds extremely challenging.

He kindly provided the following report:

A fantastic event celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It’s organised by the Rotary Club of Tywyn, and sees the whole town come out and support/volunteer. It starts in the town on the railway bridge with the train below and set us off with the train whistle. Works its way out to the valley and the Cross Country begins! Baking conditions and undulation made it hard work, we reached the 7 mile half way point at Abergynolwyn then the fun started, a brutal climb up an uneven path which was very narrow in places, making the going tougher.
We even had some ankle deep mud as you had to run through a bog, quite unexpected after all the heatwaves we’ve had!
Then eventually back down with more undulation, running across sloping fields which was hard on the ankles! Then back into town with locals out with their hosepipes providing much needed relief on the last couple of miles! All in all a great experience, an highly recommended to anyone who likes their Cross Country!
