Congratulations to Denise Robertson who last Sunday did the Cosford Spitfire 10k and got her 10k PB! Denise has been at the club for a while but didn’t start racing until this year, now she’s flying! (pun intended :D ). Well done Denise we’ve all seen how hard you’ve been working in training/racing, so it’s great to be rewarded with a PB!
Then today, at the hugely popular Wilne 10k Denise was out racing once again, along with 30 other Striders – what a brilliant turnout!! We also had lot’s of Striders working tirelessly behind the scenes as volunteers, they’d been there since 7am making sure everything went like clockwork, which it did indeed! Thanks very much all of you and the other volunteers and supporters out on the course – it was another great morning and team atmosphere :D
The race itself was a tough one today, due to the hot conditions. Great performances Striders and well done to Andy Miller & Dave Sullivan who got their 10k PBs (Dave knocked 1:16 off his) and to Brian Thomas who did his fastest time at Wilne! Paul Pearce continued his return to form coming in first Strider, with Liam Regan having his first go at Wilne and finished only just behind Paul.
Well done also to Jerry Evans & Liz Phillips who both came 5th in their Age Cats, excellent running especially considering there were 916 finishers!
As always sorry if I missed any PBs etc, these are the ones I heard about/remembered, so well done to anyone else!
Brilliant work from you all for digging in when it got tough on that 2nd lap, great to see you all smiling again (eventually :D ) at the end!
Remember we’ve got the Lyra Hope Memorial 5k/5mile race at Darley Park on Wednesday, please come down and support if you are able, we have quite a few Striders entered so far I believe, but always room for more :)
