A cloudy but warm Sunday morning saw almost 1000 runners descend on Sawley Road in Draycott, for a morning of running fun. They were from all over the country – this is one very popular race and you only have to look at the results to see how incredibly fast it is! (Top 10 all under 32 mins, Top 20 under 34 mins, wow!). It must’ve been a great finish to watch for the spectators, as there was only 2 secs between 1st and 2nd place! (30:02 & 30:04!!)
Anyway back on Planet Striders, we had 14 fantastic Blue & White folks out running and (as far as I can remember – sorry in advance to anyone I missed!) Alex Hall volunteering at the Finish Area, Steve Cartwright doing multiple jobs in the car park and MC’ing! Dave Turley on the Car Park entrance, and our main man Eamonn Hughes out on the course Marshalling and doing a great multi-tasking job with his picture taking! Thanks all you lovely people!
Thanks very much too to Sally Cartwright who unfortunately had to pull out on the morning of the race, due to a nasty bite on the ankle, this didn’t deter her coming down to cheer us all on and take some pics too! Thanks Sal! Ian Crompton also came down to cheer us on, unfortunately having to pull out too with his injury niggle. Hope you both recover quickly! Thanks also to Neil Hancock out on the course for cheering us on at that tricky stage just before we re-entered Sawley Road!
It was great to see everyone, Kenny Malton & Rach Farrow had a rare buggy-free run, and Brian Thomas had a fantastic run getting back towards his best and bagging a sub-40 – well done mate! Margaret Cowling flew round and got 3rd in her age category as reward, well done Margaret!
Lyndsay Butcher & Daniel Butcher both ran round together in preparation for the big one – the Great North Run next Sunday – good luck to you both! Also a mention for Jerry Evans for a cracking determined run, he finished not too far off his overall PB (within a minute I think), which he set 9 years ago! Glad to see you’re back on it Jerry! :)
