A beautiful early Sunday morning on Iron Gate, saw runners from far and wide out to do Derby’s double-header of either the half marathon, the Ramathon or the Ram 5 Mile! Our very own Strider Steve Aynsley gave an excellent interview to Radio Derby before and at the end of the run, well done Steve, great interview and run as ever!
We had Striders far and wide too, volunteering and supporting along the route. Eamonn Hughes, for a while, was the loneliest man in Derby, after a very early start out on the Junction of Shardlow Road at Thulston (thanks for doing this for everyone Eamonn!). Luckily he wasn’t lonely for too long, as Steve and Patrick saved the day turning up to support AND bringing cakes! Well done lads :)
Right, onto the running! I was lucky enough to see the eventual Ramathon winner, Derby lad and Olympian Ben Conner glide gracefully past the Golden Gates at Elvaston Castle with not a soul in sight! He was so far ahead, finishing in 1:03:00 brilliant! His GB partner Lily Partridge was coming through in 3rd, then guess who turned up but our very own Striders Jonathan Banks and Paul Pearce!! Absolutely brilliant lads, Jonny finishing in 7th position overall, Paul 9th (and 1st in his age category, wow!). Very close behind them we also had Andy MacEwen finishing in 13th place! (I’m assuming all 3 of you got PBs here too!?)
Great running from everyone, and well done to Liz Phillips getting yet another PB, amazing! What a great year this is turning out to be! Incredible running all, we’re proud of you!!
In the Ram 5 mile, which set off 15 mins after the Ramathon, we also had some Striders – with Jerry Evans getting both a PB and 1st in his category, brilliant – well done Jerry! Lyndsay Butcher was also chuffed to bits getting her PB, being paced well by Dan Butcher, well done all of you, excellent running!
