Lakes In A Day – 9th/10th October 2021

Just one Strider took on this challenging event and a truly great result she achieved. I’ll let Emma Roe use (mostly) her own words…

Lakes in a day 2021
50 miles
13,000 feet.
15 hours 34 mins.
19th Female
4th Female Vet.
151st overall out of 409

Thick clag on the tops all day, windy and p***ing it down.

Was the most amazing event ever. I’d been building up to this for what seems like ages as with all events I was supposed to run it last year. I’d got a time in mind of 16 hours but I kind of thought it would be a big ask and would be more realistic to go for 16 to 18 hours.

The run went like clockwork. I proper had my game face on from the get go. I felt great! Pushing up the hills at a fast walk, running the majority of the rest. My knee (IT Band) was a bit sore on the descent from Fairfield but I knew once I got to Ambleside the running was easier so I wasn’t too concerned.
I ran on my own pretty much, chatting here and there to a few people but I didn’t want to engage with anyone and was happier on my own.

About 15 miles to go I ended up joining with two guys as we were running the same and walking the same and it seemed to work pushing each other on at that stage. I chatted more then once I realised it was helpful at that stage.

With the end in sight and the lights of the Racecourse at Cartmel getting closer and realising it was only 11.15pm we knew we had not long to go so this spurred us on for the last mile and to the finish line.
Absolutely elated to get a sub 16 hours and before midnight. To get 4th FV50 and 19th female was just fantastic… I still don’t think that’s sunk in yet.

Easily my best race and best result to date.
