Wednesday evening we had a great turnout of 19 Striders at Derby Rugby Club/Darley Park, for this years Piggs Trophy 10k. A cracking local 10k race put on by Rolls Royce Harriers. It’s a challenging course, taking on ‘that’ hill in Darley Park, twice! Very well done to everyone who took part, I’ve also included a couple of Striders running for their other clubs. Thanks to all the Striders who came down to support too – Gerrard Moss, Rob Higson, Andy Powell, Neil Realey, Paul Pearce, Sally Cartwright – sorry if I missed anyone!
Great performances all round! Martin Kerr was joined by his family, visiting from Scotland, with his sister running the race too. He did them proud by coming in 2nd place – great run Martin! In 17th place, Paul Roome also ran a great race, the day after he’d done the Parwich 5+ miles too! One of our newer members, Stephen Watson, ran his first race for Striders, cheered on by his family, and came an impressive 18th place, great running Steve and it all helps the GNR preparations!
Just wanted to say thanks very much to the Marshal who helped Amanda Wilson out and also went and got her bag for her. Unfortunately Amanda had been ill a few days before the race and it flared up again, meaning Amanda took the right decision and had to pull out – however she’d already got 5 miles in the bag by that point! Sorry you were unwell Amanda, but we’re all relieved you’re ok now and got the help you needed on the night x
As we all know, Pascale Holden is made of tough stuff and was out off road racing again last night! After doing Parwich on Tuesday, Pas took on ‘Ricky’s Race’ at Darley Bridge, which is approx 4.5 miles. Pas reported: “A tough, but very enjoyable little route, super friendly marshals and competitors. Only £6 entry and another nice pub afterwards. Can’t believe I haven’t done this one before! I’ll definitely do it again.”. Very well done Pas, especially in what looked like ‘not ideal’ weather conditions!! :)
