Yesterday we had 20 Striders in Derby city centre, for the Ramathon & Ram 5 races, which are both part of our Striders Road Championships for this year – There were 12 Striders taking on the Ramathon Half Marathon, and 8 the Ram 5 miler!
We all met up at the market place beforehand and there was a lot of excited/nervous Striders, friends and family – a really lovely atmosphere as we chatted, discussed plans and had lots of photos taken (thanks Eamonn Hughes plus others). Thanks very much to Lyndsay Butcher, Daniel Butcher & Kate Hughes and Jo Teft for coming down to support us all in the City. We also had Striders out on the route (sorry to anyone I’ve missed) – Luke Bremmer at the London Road Bridge, Steve & Sally Cartwright in Wilmorton & again on the river path, and Gerrard Moss at the Shardlow Road turn to Thulston – the support was very much appreciated and really does help! :)
Great performances from everyone, I’m not going to be able to know exactly who got PBs, but did want to say a big congratulations to Gloria Lagou & Chris Sharp! They both joined us about 10 months ago, and have been regulars working really hard at our training sessions (at both track & Darley park), it’s wonderful to see how their commitment to training has paid off, and have both been improving all the time! Well guess what, they both got their PB yesterday in the Ramathon!! Absolutely brillant – well done both of you! :)
Sorry I can’t mention everyone, but I do know everyone I spoke to had lots of fun, so that’s what’s important! Please have a good look at those results folks and see how well everyone did!
Please note, in the results I have only included people registered as Shelton Striders as their club (well done too to Steve Randle, who was with us at the market place and ran the Ram 5 for his 1st claim, Rolls Royce Harriers). If anyone else ran that I’ve forgotten, make sure you let me know and also let the organisers know (Ramathon only) as it is part of the RunDerby race series and we get points towards the Club tables!
Well done everyone, recover well and we’ll hopefully see lots of you at the fantastic Smalley 5 bells race this Saturday tea time! It’s got to be better than watching a dismal England performance again, surely!?!?
