The parkruns are coming thick and fast, with today being the start of a New Years weekend with some other special events on New Years Day! Today we had 34 Striders running at 7 events up and down the country. We had lots of volunteers out too, so once again thanks very much to Luke Bremmer, Steve Cartwright, Margaret Cowling, Anna Hagan-Pearce, Amanda Jackson, Dave Keegan, Paul Phillips & Denise Robertson all at Alvaston and Ian Bell at Markeaton! Thanks also to Sally Cartwright who also came down to Alvaston to support us and take some pics – thanks very much all of you!
Eamonn Hughes had recovered from his headbutting contest with a road sign on our social run yesterday, to put in another solid parkrun, however he couldn’t match the performances of Kate & Caitlin who both got their PBs – well done ladies! Andy Lucas and Henry Lucas both had another good run, with Henry notching up his 21st parkrun to mark a brilliant year – well done Henry! Hopefully lots more to come in 2024 :)
Tourist-wise, we had some good ones, with a few Striders taking in some new ones – Rob Higson at Braunstone near Leicester, Rachel Farrow at Windy Nook, near Newcastle, Pascale Holden at the Monsal Trail parkrun, whilst on a long weekend hostelling at Eyam, brill! Martin Kerr was up in his home town Kilmarnock so it would be rude not to come first place at their Parkrun wouldn’t it! Well done Martin!
To end the year here’s a couple of little stats I’ve totted up for you……
In 2023 Team Striders ran in 1721 parkruns*, which is 5,352.31 miles, not bad for Saturday mornings, before 10am!
We had an average of 33.1 Striders running per week, and loads and loads of volunteers (sorry would take too long to count all those!). Give yourselves a round of applause folks, that’s amazing! Lets try and beat it in 2024!
