This weekend it was the return of our monthly Striders tourist trip, which our spinner had randomly selected as the beautiful Beacon Hill parkrun in Leicestershire! 6 eager Striders decided to take on the trails of Beacon Hill, of which 4 was their first go. I don’t think I’ve started a parkrun on a hill before, so that was a challenge, especially when the ascent went on for approx 2k! The hard work everyone put in was soon rewarded at the top by lovely views over the county and a fantastic downhill, weaving through the woods to the finish! Brilliant fun on a lovely sunny morning, thanks for sorting it out again Charli!
Elsewhere we had lots of Striders running at Markeaton & Alvaston, with Margaret Cowling & Dave Keegan also volunteering at Alvaston – thanks very much folks!
Congratulations to Pascale Holden for coming in 1st lady at Markeaton! Brilliant Pas in a field of 400 runners! Also at Markeaton Martin Kerr was again 1st place overall, Christine Duffy got her PB, Ian Bell came 1st in his Age Cat! and Henry Lucas equalled his course PB!
At Alvaston, both Jerry Evans and Liz Phillips came 1st in their Age Cats! With Paul Pearce putting in yet another solid 2nd place & Jamie Atkinson 5th place and 1st in his Age Cat too!
Lot’s of other goings on in Striderland with Amanda Wilson getting back to her running again and at the same time notching up her 77th parkrun location at Ganger Farm in Romsey – great to see you back Amanda!
There was also I imagine a very surreal experience for Alex Hall who was at Porthcawl in South Wales for a weekend at the Elvis Festival! Whilst there she did their parkrun along the seafront joined by loads of runners dressed as the man himself!!! Looked good fun Alex :D
We also had Amanda Jackson back up in the North East at Redcar & Paul Roome trying out a relatively new parkrun, Abbey Park in Leicester!
Great running everyone! Richard Jackson has spun the spinner for next months tourist trip and it has selected Colwick! (on 28th Oct). Before then we have our next Striders Parkrun Championship fixture at Alvaston on 14th October!
