This week the rain only spurred on a massive 40 parkrunning Striders at 9 events! We also had Margaret Cowling and Ray Evans volunteering at Alvaston, thanks very much folks!
A few of us went over to Long Eaton to celebrate Matt Hennings 100th Parkrun at that course (266 overall!) brilliant achievement Matt! We were also treated to a rare Parkrun performance by Team GB Elite Samantha Harrison! (she’s only done 2 Parkruns – with priorities obviously elsewhere!). Sams is a fantastic story – she only started running in late 2018 and then December last year made the headlines by breaking the UK Ladies Parkrun record at Long Eaton in 15:37 (record is now 15:31!). Well yesterday she did exactly the same time, coming in 4th place (the winner Sam Gilson did it in 15:08, wow!), apparently this was a ‘tempo’ run for her and she did extra rep training afterwards!!! It was a great morning and well done to Sally Cartwright who did the parkrun then her long run after, with support crew Steve Cartwright!
At Markeaton, Henry Lucas took on the hill again and managed to get his course PB with Dad Andy Lucas, brilliant work Henry! We also had Striders in positions 1st, 3rd, & 5th! Martin Kerr, Jamie Atkinson, Liam Regan, well done all!
Alvaston again had a good Striders presence, with Rachel Young returning to shorter distances after her recent ultra and got her PB, well done Rach!
Some more great tourism this week, with Alex Hall having a first got at not-so-sunny Bournemouth, Liz & Paul Phillips popped into Northampton and did Brixworth before going down to London to celebrate their 34th anniversary – happy anniversary to you both! James Realey also had a first go at Old Railway Trail parkrun, in Llangollen!
Well done everyone, hopefully see lots of you today at the Derby City Boxing Academy for the Annabel’s Angels Fundraising Day, starting at 10am. This has been organised by the wonderful Ana & Paul Pearce, to raise money for our Striders Charity for 2023 – thanks both of you, really looking forward to it!
