On the morning of 18th September three Striders only races where held as part of the weekend away at Great Hucklow hosted by Andy Holden.
In perfect weather conditions the series kicked off with a 3k race for juniors. This saw the competitors charge up the hill onto Hucklow Edge and sprint back down again. First back was Ethan in an amazing time of 15m 38s.
Next was an ‘undulating’ 5k mostly-road race which took in the three ‘lows’ of Grindlow, Foolow and Great Hucklow. This turned out to be an all ladies affair and was led home by Rachel Farrow.
Finally there was a fell race of 10ish kilometres which required the competitors drop all the way down the valley to Bradwell before embarking on a 900ft climb back to Great Hucklow via the spectacular Abney Moor. There was a sprint finish for the win with Kenny beating Marcel to the line by the narrowest of margins, followed by another tussle for the bronze medal position, where Roy just pipped Tim. First lady back was Pascale, with Rachel coming a few minutes later to complete the Grand Slam of all 3 races.
Well done to all that took part and thanks to everyone that helped out marshalling, timekeeping and preparing the post race lunch. The morning was a great display of the spirit of Shelton Striders, with the whole ground being involved in one way or another and much cheering for all competitors from first to last in each race.
