This week it was a somewhat local affair as we had 27 Striders running at 6 different parkruns spread across the midlands.
It’s great to see week-in, week-out, Strider’s volunteering at different events, and this Saturday was no exception with Paul Roome and Eamonn Hughes on pacer duties at Markeaton and Alvaston respectively, putting in some excellent splits to finish within a couple of seconds of their goal pace. At the same time, Denise Robertson was bringing participants home as Tail Walker at Alvaston.
Aside from the great support, there were also some excellent results. At Alvaston, Sally Cartwright got a course PB of 26:52, and was just one second off matching her fastest parkrun ever. Paul Pearce came in 5th with a strong performance of 17:43, even more impressive when you consider it was in the middle of a 14 mile long run! Great running both!
At Markeaton Park, Martin Kerr was 2nd overall in 17:05, topping the VM40-44 age category, and Sue Kinross came first in the VW65-69 category in a great time of 35:22.
Elsewhere we had Striders trying out parkruns for the first time with Hazel Baxter at Kingsbury Water Park, and Neil Hancock running at Conkers. Christopher Sharp and Gloria Lagou both ran course PBs at Rushcliffe, and Charli Land dipped under 35 minutes at Long Eaton with a 34:59.
Brilliant running as usual Striders, and well done to everyone however you took part this week.
Next week, as it’s the 2nd Saturday of the month, it’s our regular parkrun championship at Alvaston. Hope to see as many of you as possible there :)
