This round was to be the first time in 2019 when we released the runners in order by handicap and it was based on my calculations. I have to admit to being nervous about it. After sign on and the start times were generated I was uncomfortable – this didn’t look like it could work. Perhaps I shouldn’t have included shoe sizes, or I’d got the phase of the moon wrong, or maybe a tadge too much turmeric? We went with it and the start crew were fantastic and Andy, Marie and Brian did an excellent job with the valuable input of Grace.
Those that have done it know this is not a PB course so it comes as no surprise that there were only 2 improved handicaps.
It’s very wrong of me to mention any one runner without mentioning them all but… Louise and Stuart are both novices and, running with them on a Friday evening, I had to set them off where I thought they’d fit best. Louise in particular still lacks a degree of confidence and I wondered how she’d react to the incline. To see Louise coming back first – on her own – and smiling as she ran up the car park followed just over a minute later by Stuart was, for me, an extremely rewarding sight.
But then at regular intervals the others came in and it became apparent that my calculations are not that far off – but perhaps a LITTLE less turmeric.
My thanks also to Liz on the finish with Andy.
Well done everyone! It’s not an easy route – but you know that now, and many of you did say how much you enjoyed the run. Thanks for coming.
NB – Apologies for messing the numbers up earlier – I really can’t explain where they came from, however having checked these against watches etc I am satisfied that these almost certainly may be nearly right. The grouping of the time difference is much closer this time reflecting that something is not extremely far off wrong.
