Eight Shelton Striders braved the wind, rain and mud to compete in a 32 mile ultra on Sunday 26th January. There were two teams of three….Sam Pearch, Kenny Malton & Shaun Cooper in one team and Wayne Stevenson, Luke Stevenson & Sam Amps in the other. The two solo striders were Julie Stevenson & Tim Primmer. It started and finished at Chaddesden 27th Scout Headquarters. It was extremely wet from the start and they had to endure extreme conditions under foot. However, this didnt stop Shelton Striders first team Sam, Kenny & Shaun finishing in a fantastic time of 5hrs 23mins and winning the team event overall. Next strider in was young Luke Stevenson (with a solo PB and his 3rd Wilmot Wander under his belt) of 5hrs 49mins but finishing as a team with dad Wayne & Sam Amps in 6hrs 00mins. Well done! Solo woman strider Julie also completed the race in a PB of 7hrs 32mins. Unfortunately, Tim did complete 20 miles of the course but had to drop out, but a brave effort for his first attempt. Well done everyone. It was tough but great results all round!!
